The legendary Primus, with their one-of-a-kind blend of rock, virtuosity, and absurd humor, are finally coming to Ljubljana! This is a band that has always been happy to stand outside the mainstream while still leaving an indelible mark on it, whether through hits, high-profile collaborations, or unforgettable one-offs like the opening theme of South Park. They’re promising a night that will be ridiculously fun, weird, and unforgettable.
FOR FANS OF: Mr. Bungle, Butthole Surfers, Queens of the Stone Age …
Primus formed in the mid-1980s under the leadership of bassist, vocalist, and chief troublemaker Les Claypool, one of the most revered bassists in music history. From the very start, their sound dodged easy labels. They’re often loosely filed under alternative or funk metal, but their music draws equally from funk, punk, progressive rock, psychedelia, and experimental rock, all tied together by Claypool’s unmistakable bass playing and surreal storytelling. Slap-bass lines, jagged guitar riffs, and offbeat rhythms collide in songs that feel deliberately clumsy yet are precisely measured and totally their own. That very mix of technical mastery and thematic absurdity became one of the band’s defining traits.
Their big breakthrough came in the MTV-era nineties with albums like Sailing the Seas of Cheese, which opened the door to their strange, bass-driven world for a wider audience, with songs like “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “My Name Is Mud.” Beyond their own discography, Primus have also built a reputation through ambitious side projects and collaborations, especially Les Claypool, who has teamed up with all kinds of musicians, from Tom Waits, Stewart Copeland, and Henry Rollins to members of Metallica, Tool, and the Grateful Dead.
Renowned as an incredibly powerful live act, Primus blend their discography, improvised jams, and mischief into an unforgettable experience at their anything-but-predictable shows. Over the decades, they’ve played practically all the major festivals and stages around the world. After almost a decade away, they return to Europe for the first time in summer 2026, and in August they’ll finally visit Ljubljana too, where they’ll take over the unique ambience of Križanke. This is a show you simply can’t miss.
