Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist of The Cure, has died at the age of 65.

The band announced the news in a statement on their website:

“With great sadness we confirm the death of our dear friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte, who passed away at home over Christmas after a short illness.

Quiet, intense, intuitive, persistent and incredibly creative – that was ‘Teddy, an important part of our band’s story.

He was with The Cure from 1984 to 1989, and in 1990 he became a full-fledged member of the band, playing guitar, six-string bass and keyboards and featuring on the albums “Wish”, “Wild Mood Swings”, “Bloodflowers”, “Acoustic Hits” and “The Cure”. Over 14 years he played more than 400 shows.

In 2022 he rejoined The Cure and played another 90 shows, some of the best in the band’s history, with the high point being the “Show Of A Lost World” concert in London on November 12, 2024.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his family.

We’ll miss him dearly.”

Perry Archangelo Bamonte was born on September 3, 1960, in London and joined The Cure in 1984. It was his younger brother, who was working with the band at the time as their tour manager, who connected him with the group.

Bamonte first worked with The Cure as a guitar tech, and in 1990 he became a full member of the band.

After leaving The Cure in 2005, he joined Love Amongst Ruin, which also featured former members of Placebo and of Julian Cope’s backing band.

In 2019 he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of The Cure, and in 2022 he rejoined the band.
