In a pretty intimate setting at Ljubljana’s Cutty Sark last night, two Finnish musicians served up an eye-catching, noisy acoustic evening.

Pete and Rami, two likeable guys, made the trip to Slovenia from far-off Finland, this year’s Eurovision host. Mind you, Eurovision had nothing to do with their visit. The two came to promote the new album from their band Turku Romantic Movement, titled Noise & Confusion.

Turku Romantic Movement are a four-piece whose motto is Rock, Ryhtm & Revolution! After recording three albums in their native Finnish, they decided to go more international, and in 2006 they put out their first single in English, working with Neil Leyton. TRM already visited Slovenia last year with the full lineup on their 2006 European tour.
This time they decided to present the album in an acoustic version, so only two members came, which of course has its perks too.

For an acoustically revolutionary evening in the heart of Ljubljana, Rami and Pete kicked things off with a press conference, where they presented their new album Noise & Confusion. The conversation drifted to this year’s Eurovision and, as a result, to our shapely representative. The guys were mostly very surprised, or rather shocked, by the video of the Slovenian singer in question, which shows quite a lot of bare skin. Which suggests that in Finland music still comes before looks, something we sadly can’t say about ours.

Back to Turku Romantic Movement. Once the press conference was over, the two goth-rocker-looking musicians picked up their acoustic guitars and launched into their repertoire, which leaned mostly on the new record, which, by the way, came out this April and is fantastic to listen to.

The loud, at times gritty rock sound of the guitars, yet still very melodic, plus a solid rhythm and two intense vocals, even drew in passersby, who were deep in thought wondering whether Marilyn Manson had maybe come to Slovenia ahead of his planned June concert. For this tidbit I thank Jani, who witnessed a conversation between two platinum blondes.

Pete and Rami delivered a great show full of energy and rock passion, which came through in their vocals. Something our Slovenian musicians usually really just don’t have.

As I could see for myself last night, Turku Romantic Movement are a very promising indie rock band, and I hope they come back to us soon with the full lineup and put on another great gig.
