On 11/17/2023, Dream Theater posted the sad news on their official FaceBook profile that their former singer Charlie Dominici (in the middle of the photo) has passed away.
Here’s what they wrote: “We are deeply saddened by the shocking news of the passing of former Dream Theater vocalist Charlie Dominici. Charlie was the voice of Dream Theater’s debut album ‘When Dream And Day Unite’, which we recorded in 1988. On top of being a great vocalist, he was also a very talented songwriter and a polished musician who played both keyboards and guitar brilliantly, and he was a longtime friend of ours too, a friendship that lasted all the way through, even in the years after he left Dream Theater. Charlie’s unexpected passing is a tremendous loss for everyone in the Dream Theater family. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, who are going through a difficult time right now.”
Charlie Dominici joined Dream Theater in 1987, back when the band was still called Majesty, replacing their first singer Chris Collins. He stuck around until 1989, when Canadian James LaBrie took over. Besides singing on Dream Theater’s debut album, released in 1989, Charlie put out a trilogy of “O3” albums with his own band Dominici between 2005 and 2008.
No further details about Dominici’s death are available at this time.
