Jon Schaffer, the founder, main songwriter and driving force behind Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards, Sons of Liberty, Jon Schaffer’s Purgatory and the Schaffer/Barlow Project, is back with a refreshed version of his Jon Schaffer’s Sons of Liberty project, titled “Thought Crimes (Volumes 1 & 2)”. The release will come out via The Circle Music.
The new version comes with a fresh mix that keeps the raw edge of the LP “Brush-fires of the Mind” (2009) and the EP “Spirit of the Times” (2011).
“Thought Crimes (Volumes 1 & 2)” is already available on all streaming platforms. For collectors, a special physical edition will be out via The Circle Music on July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It includes a double vinyl release in five color variants (with an exclusive limited run of 100 copies available only at www.icedearthmerch.com), a deluxe limited-edition CD in a leather case, a CD digipak and a cassette.
You can already pre-order the album.
The drums were recorded by Schaffer’s longtime friend Mark Prator, who played on Iced Earth classics (The Dark Saga, Something Wicked This Way Comes), Demons & Wizards (the self-titled debut) and Jon Schaffer’s Purgatory (2018 EP). The new mix was handled by Jim Morris.
