Possessed are an American death metal band formed in 1983. They’re known for their fast playing style and Jeff Becerra’s guttural vocals, and they’re often called the first band in the death metal genre, helping pave the way for the thrash metal scene in the Bay Area of the eighties alongside Metallica, Exodus, Testament and Death Angel. The band is also known for having Larry LaLonde in its ranks, who was Possessed’s lead guitarist from 1984 to 1987 before joining Primus.
After splitting in 1987 and reactivating between 1990 and 1993, the band reunited in 2007 under the leadership of original vocalist and bassist Jeff Becerra. Over their career, Possessed have released three studio albums: “Seven Churches”, “Beyond the Gates” and “Revelations of Oblivion”. On top of that come one live album, two compilations and two EPs.
