Ljubljana record shop Spin Vinyl shared sad news on its official Facebook profile: its founder, the ‘soul and heart of the store’, Dejc, has passed away.
Details about the cause of his far too early death are not known.
“We called him Dejc. Simple as that. When you stepped into that little shop crammed with vinyl, on Gallusovo nabrežje (across from Zlata Ladjica) in the middle of old Ljubljana, you knew you’d come home. Before that magical pull had irreversibly dragged you toward the stacks of records, a warm voice always boomed a greeting from the left of the entrance, behind the counter. That was Dejc. Homeliness and heart were never foreign to him. He was driven by playful enthusiasm and an endless love of music. That’s why you knew right away that he was ‘your guy’. Instantly. Full of useful advice, tips and ideas he never held back, Dejc was a man who, with his cheerfulness, warmth and cheeky sharpness, quickly got under your skin. Laughter and good humor were his lifelong allies.
Even though we always operated in that ‘official relationship’ of seller and buyer, whenever we chatted it felt like we’d known each other for ages. Endless debates about music, musicians, this record and that one,… Spin Vinyl was always hard to leave. Not just because you were loaded up to your neck with records you had no idea how you’d carry home, but simply because of that rarely found homeliness and positive vibe radiated by Dejc, and with him, this lovable space that brought together old and new, and boundless crowds and generations of music lovers.
Spin Vinyl is that musical sanctuary – music lovers would happily call it ‘liberated territory’,… A lighthouse in the middle of a gray and empty Ljubljana. For many, a second home. But from now on, things will be different… Farewell, dear, unforgettable friend, and thank you for giving vinyl back to us! Find your peace.”
