Shotdown, the hard rock / heavy metal band from the Goriška region that wrapped things up back in 2019, has broken its long silence with devastating news: singer and founding member Jurij ‘Egzi’ Čotar has passed away. According to the info available on Metal Archives, Jurij was just thirty-three years old.

No further details about this tragic and deeply sad news are available for now.

Egzi was considered one of the hottest hard rock and heavy metal voices to emerge on the Slovenian heavy metal scene in the first decade of the new millennium. He made his mark with an incredible approach that combined explosive power and commanding authority, even in the highest registers, back when he was singing with his original band Shutdown. They released their only studio album, “Heavy As Metal & Hot As Hell”, in 2012, then changed their name to Shotdown in 2016. They kept going under that name until 2019, when they called it quits.

Between 2013 and 2016, Egzi also worked with Requiem, and before that he briefly lent a hand to the power metallers Space Unicorn Of Fire. From 2015 to 2019, he also played alongside Requiem frontman Marko Slokar in Stare Device.

From 2010 on, he and his sister Katarina Čotar performed as a duo under the name Egzi & Ketrin.

On behalf of the Rockline crew, we offer our sincere condolences to Egzi’s family and all his loved ones.
