Are Zgrešeni primeri Really a Lost Cause? (2008)

Venue: Orto bar, Ljubljana
Concert date: 16.05.2008
Attendance: 50

Ljubljana’s Orto bar shook with punk`n`roll rhythms again on Saturday, May 17, thanks to two young bands from Dolenjska, B.T.K. and Zgrešeni primeri. Even though it was a Saturday, there were relatively few people outside and inside Orto. Where was everybody? No idea, since there was nothing major going on in Ljubljana that day. So much for supporting young Slovenian bands.

A little after ten p.m., a young high-school-and-college crew from Ivančna Gorica and Stična took the stage under the telling name B.T.K. The guys found their common groove in August 2006 and have since cooked up more than a dozen original tracks. Among others, we got to hear “Polona”, “Bobi”, “Najin raj”, “Vzem` me nazaj”, “Izjema” … in Orto bar. They’re trying to find a style of their own, but you can still hear the influence of Zablujena generacija, Zmelkoow, Blink 182 and Sum 41. Still, B.T.K. have a lot of work to do on their stage behavior, because they come across as four confused guys who had instruments shoved into their hands and were pushed onto a stage. Asking each other “what’s the next song?” in front of everyone isn’t exactly attractive or fun either. Guys, write yourselves a setlist for the next gig! And one more thing: never say out loud who people came to the show for, like you did at Orto. Give it your best and the crowd will follow.

B.T.K.’s set wrapped up after about twenty-five minutes. Then Zgrešeni primeri came on and, with the very first song, “Adam, Eva in raj”, promised a more fun rest of the night. During “Silikon bejbe” we could check whether the song is really about flowers, as singer Janko Rošelj claimed before it started. He also pulled off a few slightly goofy jumps along the way. Obviously just a warm-up. Before “Še žov ti bo”, Jani told Sazas to get lost. It’s an interesting song, though it reminds me a bit of “Rape me”, the one grunge heroes Nirvana performed with Kurt Cobain up front. Zgrešeni primeri are a pretty fresh band, but they already have solid gig mileage behind them (they’ve opened for The Drinkers, Zmelkoow and Mi2, among others), and it shows in their performance. Next up at Orto was “10. rajh”. There were only about fifty people at the show. A small crowd, but it was nice to see most of them nodding their heads. “Več pa najmam” is a song that, according to Jani, is about some local lady. If you want the whole anecdote, just hop online and find Zgrešeni primeri’s next gig date (HERE). The guys then played “Na strehi ženskega mita” and “one more love song”, a.k.a. “Tadeja”. When Jani announced “Luzer”, I first thought it was the same “loser” that Big Foot Mama play (Kaj se dogaja?, 1997). But as soon as the guys strummed the first riffs, I knew it wasn’t. With mocking words that the next song is what Slavko Avsenik performs in his dreams, the Zgrešenci kicked off “Enigma človeštva”. Finally we got to their first single, “Harmonik monik”, track number seven on their debut album “M.E.M.” (you can order the record HERE). It came out on April 1 this year and no, it’s not an April Fools’ joke. “Harmonik monik” is a parody of the turbo-folk “abomination” Atomik Harmonik, which brainwashes and milks money out of clueless listeners with zero feel for good, quality music.
“Prfoksa” and “Si srečna zdaj” were the next songs played. Jani had also warmed up nicely by the halfway point, and his jumps looked a lot better now. While the crowd stood like statues during B.T.K.’s set, it was the exact opposite during Zgrešeni primeri. The guys then fired up “Mi”, “Luza baluza” and “Asskisserji”. Their set was slowly drifting toward the end, but not before they asked us, in their Dolenjska dialect, “Kaku si kej?”. “Heroj in – heroj avt” and “V aparatu” followed. And for a goodnight kiss, one more song, “Puhavnik”, and see you next time.

At Orto, Zgrešeni primeri entertained us with their interesting, provocative and mocking original lyrics, which you can also find on their debut M.E.M., released on April 1. These guys show a lot of promise, and I recommend everyone catch them live at least once.
