Rage and hatred are the words that best sum up the new album from English brutalizers Dyscarnate. On their EP, and again on this album, the guys sing about humanity’s despair and envy. Man considers himself the superior being on this planet, yet he can’t stand himself.
Betrayal and duplicity as far as the human mind can reach. That’s the idea behind the phenomenal song called Judecca. As Dante described in his Divine Comedy, Judecca is one of the four sections of the ninth and thus final circle of hell, reserved for the eternal torment of traitors. The band packed the album not only with beautifully written lyrics but also with polished, technical music that carries us through all 8 tracks.
Considering the band has been active since 2004, they’ve finally managed to sign with Siege Of Amida Records, and the guys say they’re really happy with them. As a newer band on the scene, they’re slowly clawing their way up the death metal ladder, and I wish them lots of success, because you can tell the guys are putting in the work. And you can’t overlook the cover art that adorns their creation, either. As they explained, the album represents the beginning of the end of the world. People hate each other more and more, wars break out, and the innocent suffer too, soon infected with rage at everything that walks and crawls. And as the world turns into an infected globe, all this filth, if we can call it that, pours down onto Atlas, the titan who holds up the whole world and the heavens so they don’t collapse. All the massacre going on brings the mighty titan to his knees and weakens him, but he has to endure for the good of everyone on earth and in heaven. Hence the idea for the title Enduring the Massacre. The band really delivered and showed with their aggressive approach that they’re not messing around. And anyone who takes it as a joke has An Axe To Grind waiting for them, the very first track and opener of the whole album. In short, this is an album worth listening to.
I recommend the album to all fans of death metal and grind. Those who love Dying Fetus and Misery Index especially will take Enduring the Massacre to heart, since it’s aggressive, brutal and raw, just as death metal should be. But it’s also made for everyone else who loves low guitar tones and fast drums, deep vocals and high-frequency screams. As Despised Icon would say … Keep It Brutal!
