Johnny Solinger, who fronted American glam metal legends Skid Row from 1999 to 2015, passed away yesterday, June 26, 2021, at the age of 56. The cause of death was liver failure.
Johnny Solinger, full name John Preston Solinger, born August 7, 1965, is best known for his time with Skid Row, with whom he recorded the albums “Thickskin” (2003) and “Revolutions Per Minute” (2006), as well as all three parts of the “United World Rebellion” EP. After he left, he was replaced in Skid Row by South African vocalist ZP Theart, who had previously sung with Dragonforce.
Solinger moved to Dallas with his family as a young kid, where he soon showed an interest in rock music, and country too. In 1990 he founded the local hard rock outfit Solinger in Dallas, with whom he recorded the albums “Solinger”, “Solinger II”, “Chain Link Fence” and “Solinger Live”. The band released all of those albums independently.
In 2008 Solinger also tried his hand at a solo career and started recording albums that featured country music as well as hard rock. He even cut one of the tracks, titled You Lie, together with members of Skid Row.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up online to raise money to cover the cost of Johnny’s treatment.

RIP. Sicer ne poznam albumov, na katerih je pel, sem ga pa imel priložnost videti na koncertu Skid Row pred skoraj dvema desetletjema na Dunaju.
Sem pa zgrožen nad objavami, ki si jih je ob pevčevi smrti privoščil Sebastian Bach na družabnih omrežjih. Da se mu zdi potrebno opominjati, da Solinger no zamenjak nueva, ampak enega drugega pevca.
Seveda je deloma res, da Skid Row živijo na stari slavi, ampak zdi se, da to še veliko bolj velja za Bacha. Tudi njega sem imel priložnost videti v živo in ne modem reči, da bi me kaj posebej navdušil, sploh, ker se je tudi na svojem nastopu ukvarjal z zamerami do svojega nekdanjega banda.
Bach je propalica, samo pobere se naj in nekam skrije. Tam 2014, 2015 sem ga gledal na BYH festivalu, samo pizdenje na tehnike in neverjetno slabo prepevanje v bednih 40 minutah… tip je ‘full ow shit’, da ne omenjam kako težko gledam dvojni biografski DVD od Rush Different Stages, ko je ta tip notri v tem DVD-ju med debatniki, kjer naklada kako mu Rush muska pomeni celo vesolje in bla bla, ma tip je res.. kaj nej rečem. Zmanjka besed. Izhlapel, komplet skisan,… Skid Row so tudi s Solingerjem posnel povsem kredibilno novo glasbo. Povsem cool albume in tiste tri EP-je. NE preseneča me, da nočjo Bacha več nazaj medse sprejet. Bojda je tip že parkrat namignu, da se je pripravljen v bend vrnit. 😀
Hm, če praviš, da so v redu plate, pa bom res moral pobrskat po Youtubu. Same je bil že Subhuman Race veliko razočaranje, tako, da sem se takrat nehal zanimat zanje. Sicer pa sta mi bila prva albuma špica, sploh drugi mi je še posebej všeč zaradi agresivnosti in heavy produkcije.
