Interview with Electrix (2009)
Location: Zeleni Zajec, Ljubljana
Interview date: 29.01.2009
Electrix is a young Slovenian electro pop/rock band that draws its influences mainly from the 1980s. Their first album is coming out soon, and the RockLine crew caught up with them at the launch of the new Let 3 record – Živa Pička, where they gave us a few minutes of their time.
RockLine: First off, can you tell me a bit about your music?
Electrix: Sure, we play music rooted in the eighties. That means we use a lot of synths and almost no guitars.
RockLine: Almost no guitars, or none at all?
Electrix: We use a little bit of guitar, but not much. It’s pretty much all built on synths.
RockLine: What about your influences? Ultravox, maybe?
Electrix: Them too. Plus Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and so on.
RockLine: So we’re talking influences from the more commercial bands?
Electrix: Yeah, mostly, but some more underground stuff too.
RockLine: Do you think there’s an audience for this kind of music in Slovenia? Can you make it?
Electrix: The audience is definitely there, but whether we’ll make it, we don’t know. That’s not really what it’s about for us. It’s about making music we believe in.
RockLine: I heard you’re working on an album.
Electrix: Yep, our debut is coming out in February.
RockLine: On the Dallas label?
Electrix: That’s right.
RockLine: What about previous experience? Have you played in other bands before?
Electrix: Pretty much all of us have, and we’ve played just about every genre – jazz, rock, you name it. Now we decided to try our hand at electro pop, and we all believe in it.
RockLine: So you’re not newcomers?
Electrix: No, not at all.
RockLine: Can you introduce yourselves to wrap things up?
Kamikaze: I’m the singer, and I handle the effects too.
Moroderu: I play keyboards and the occasional guitar.
Fish: And I’m in charge of the electronic drums.
RockLine: Thanks for the quick chat, and see you around.
Electrix: Thanks.
