Just Like A Pussylover
Artist: BS' Titty (Bastard Sons Of Titty Twister)
Label: Self-released
Release: 2006
Three hundred fat-assed flying Uzbek spike-nosed beavers! And the wonder of wonders to close out this week? Punk-ass sons, BS’ T.T., extended to BS’ Titty or stretched out to Bastard Son Of Titty Twister, from Trieste (a city in Italy, for those whose memory is slipping). These kids are straight-up mongrels down to the bare marrow of their being. They crank out raw rock n’ roll, a hopelessly debauched take on the slop of a tipped-over tanker of booze concoctions and the fragrant, far-reaching aromas of the little birdie. Slapped with a Parental Advisory sticker and a concise explainer on it, “we say fuck a lot”, comes “Just Like A Pussylover”. That’s the title of the EP that singer Miki selflessly pressed into my hand at this year’s Metal Mania Open Air festival in Komen.
If Motorhead hadn’t come before BS’ Titty, I’d baptize these lads as genuine first-rate rock n’ roll lumberjacks with the rabies of mad rhinoceros disease. So we can cross out the word genuine, the other nicknames stand. The guys, of course, kick off their EP offering with the track Iced, lifting the Ace Of Spades riff like it’s nothing and rolling dirty in that vein through eighteen minutes of rock n’ roll.
BS’ Titty have two guitars tuned higher, the sound is white-hot toxic but far more controlled than with the aforementioned legends, and the solos are totally predictable, built from classic ingredients – three-finger bends and lazing around forever in the same “magic” box on the guitar neck, that’s rock n’ roll. A direct kick. In the nose or wherever, with a proper wake-up effect. Miki Twist’s booze-winded vocal can be obscenely high-pitched and powerful, always shamelessly commanding, with the required dose of dirty throatiness, and what matters most here, considering what usually happens when Italians handle English, is that the man delivers the English lines totally correctly, though BS’ Titty by no means hide the extreme naivety in them: “She’s got a long blond hair, but baby I don’t care”. As you can see, rhyming trumps logic here.
There are five songs on the album, with five noticeably different riffs, and even the tempos differ noticeably. And unbelievable! In Sex No Love the guys forge a super tasty, warm organ sound into the otherwise riff-driven debauchery. These guys know how and can play, and we can wait excitedly for a debut album, a quality, compact, furiously potent replica of some long-forgotten tale. And these days this kind of goofing around is chronically in short supply, while all the “intelligence” in rock gravitates toward the castration of eroticism behind a mask of naked posturing by vacuum-packed heads, people who dare to try to sell it to us. Rock n’ Roll needs recycling. In BS’ Titty’s case it’s served up as a healthy, genuine joke, and that’s what rock n’ roll was always supposed to be. An avalanche of positive energy that makes your heart sing! And the “jolt-shakers” milk rock n’ roll with real skill.
