Cherry Red Records will release a five-CD box set, “Long Hard Road (1980–1985)”, at the end of this August, covering almost the entire career of cult heavy rock outfit Nightwing!

The collection includes all four studio albums plus the band’s only live album, released between 1980 and 1985. From the boogie-tinged hard rock of »Something In The Air« to the cult albums »Black Summer«, »Stand Up And Be Counted« and »My Kingdom Come«, the box traces the evolution of one of the most recognizable bands to emerge from the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement.

With extensive touring, a slot at the legendary Reading Rock Festival and shows on the same stage as acts like Gillan, among others, Nightwing built up a loyal following. Along the way, the band worked with icons like fantasy illustrator Melvyn Grant (“Black Summer”) and legendary cover artist Roger Dean (“My Kingdom Come”).

The set wraps up with »Night Of Mystery – Alive! Alive!«, Nightwing’s only live album, recorded during gigs in Yugoslavia and West Germany. It’s a document that proves just how commanding and powerful this band was on stage!

With a new liner-notes essay by Classic Rock journalist Rich Davenport, the “Long Hard Road (1980–1985)” compilation offers a full look at Nightwing’s important contribution to the history of British heavy metal.

»Long Hard Road (1980–1985)« – out August 28, 2026 on Cherry Red Records – you can already pre-order the compilation.

Note that the album “Nightwing VI”, released in 1988 on PGB RTB (Produkcija Gramofonskih Ploča Radio Televizije Beograd), is missing from the set (editor’s note)
