Opća Opasnost Storm Ortofest (2017)!
Opća Opasnost
April 21, 2017
Ljubljana / Orto Bar / Slovenia
Opća Opasnost is a Croatian hard rock outfit that’s been at it since way back in 1992, formed in the town of Županja. After a decade-long break between 1997 and 2008, the band fully reactivated, and they’ve been going ever since with an unchanged sextet lineup: Pero Galić (vocals), Slaven Živanović (guitar), Igor Kolić (bass), Vlado Soljačić (guitar), Josip Kamenski (drums) and Branimir Jovanovac on keyboards.
Funnily enough, the band only made its debut on Slovenian stages in 2011, with a gig in Brežice. But time marches on, and the band, which released a new studio album in 2014 titled »Rocker… to sam ja!«, has finally made it to the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, too, despite the “amusing” situation currently going on at the border between the two countries, with three-hour waits at Obrežje just to get across.
For a few hundred souls hungry for their music, the band put on an exceptionally nice show that ran an hour and three quarters, both encores included. The crowd was a bit more modest than you’d expect, but incredibly devoted and clearly well-versed in the band’s catalog. Up front, mostly girls, who had the lyrics down perfectly and melted right into the music. Commanding the stage on vocals (newly sporting a neat, sharp haircut) was Pero Galić, a man many of you probably know from his stint fronting a far more notorious name of the former Yu-rock scene, Divlje Jagode, of course. He’s surrounded by a crew of seasoned comrades who use stages like the one on the ground floor of Orto Bar with great dynamics and skill. You couldn’t fault the band for a thing as, backed by routine, confidence and experience, they strolled through an iron-clad repertoire that also featured newer songs from the current studio album and from »Vrati se na svjetlo« (2011).
Great sound, great lighting, great energy. Pero was a little less precise on vocals here and there, but otherwise the band can pride itself on a whole lot of tightness and conviction in delivering the tracks they lined up one after another at Orto Bar. Croatian hard rock. With the typical melos. In that sense, Opća opasnost would fit perfectly as the opening act for the likes of Parni Valjak etc… since they cultivate songs sung in Croatian, backed by that recognizable melos, the kind brewed south of the Kolpa, which a good chunk of the audience here is already traditionally used to and attached to. All in all, a lovely show.
