The musical vocabulary of this band is so all-encompassing that their artistry is hard to pin down in words. They’ll be playing at Križanke!

The legendary Primus, with their unique blend of rock, virtuosity, and absurd humor, are finally coming to Ljubljana! The band has always happily stood outside the mainstream while still leaving an indelible mark on it – whether through hits, high-profile collaborations, or unforgettable one-off projects like the South Park opening credits – and they’re promising a night that will be ridiculously fun, weird, and unforgettable.
FOR FANS OF: Mr. Bungle, Butthole Surfers, Queens of the Stone Age …
Primus formed in the mid-1980s under the leadership of bassist, vocalist, and chief troublemaker Les Claypool, one of the most celebrated bassists in music history. From the very beginning, their sound has dodged easy labels. They’re often loosely lumped in with alternative or funk metal, but their music draws equally from funk, punk, prog rock, psychedelia, and experimental rock, all tied together by Claypool’s unmistakable bass playing and surreal storytelling. Slap-bass lines, jagged guitar riffs, and off-kilter rhythms collide in songs that feel deliberately clumsy yet are precisely measured and totally their own. It’s exactly this fusion of technical mastery and thematic absurdity that became one of the band’s defining traits.
Their big breakthrough came in the MTV-driven nineties with albums like Sailing the Seas of Cheese, which opened the door for a wider audience into their strange, bass-driven world with songs like “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “My Name Is Mud.” Beyond their own discography, Primus also built a reputation through ambitious side projects and collaborations, Les Claypool especially, who has buddied up with all kinds of musicians – from Tom Waits, Stewart Copeland, and Henry Rollins to members of Metallica, Tool, and the Grateful Dead.
Renowned as an exceptionally powerful live band, Primus melt their discography, improvised passages, and mischief into an unforgettable experience at shows that are anything but predictable. Over the decades they’ve played practically every major festival and stage in the world. After almost a decade away, they return to Europe for the first time in summer 2026, and in August they’ll finally visit Ljubljana too, taking over the one-of-a-kind ambiance of Križanke. A show you simply can’t miss.
