Hammerheart Records is reissuing the classic Running Wild album “Pile Of Skulls”. It’s coming back as a deluxe picture disc vinyl (limited to 500 copies). The reissue is expected on June 19, 2026!
“Pile Of Skulls”, released in the early nineties, is considered one of the best achievements of a band that helped cement its reputation as one of the most important European heavy metal acts and that had a huge influence on the rise of European power metal. This speed/power metal with the band’s famous pirate theme is a missile that hits you straight in the forehead and teeth.
The album came out a year after Running Wild put out its excellent predecessor “Blazon Stone” (1991). “Pile Of Skulls” from 1992 mixes ideas that harken back to the band’s earlier days, like the album “Under Jolly Roger”, while also continuing the trend toward bigger bombast and epic scope. The pirate speed metal anthem »Whirlwind«, the mid-tempo anthem »Roaring Thunder« with its Native American-inspired chants, and of course the 11-minute closing symphony »Treasure Island« are the definitive highlights of this timeless album.
