“Rush of Thrash Metal”: Coroner
Coroner are a cult Swiss trio who brought technical thrash metal to European soil in the mid-eighties and wrote themselves into history with legendary releases like R.I.P., Punishment for Decadence, No More Color and Mental Vortex. On those records they deftly folded elements of classical and avant-garde music, progressive rock, industrial and jazz into a thrash metal foundation, earning the nickname “the Rush of thrash metal.” Coroner called it quits in 1996, but got back together nine years ago. Ron Royce (bass, vocals) and Tommy T. Baron (guitar) are now joined in the band by drummer Diego Rapacchietti. The trio is slowly working on a long-awaited comeback album, and last year at Metaldays they played on Slovenian soil for the first time in their history. We caught up with them a few hours after their set.
