Tesseract

A packed Flex club in Vienna, hosting Tesseract, Between the Buried and Me and Plini, showed there's growing interest in bands that put the unusual and the diverse front and center.

The second day of this year's Metaldays served up a genre-hopping cross-section of acts, crowned by two outstanding sets from German heavy metal veterans Accept and Swedish black metal giants Watain.

With Sonder, Tesseract kind of blend elements from their past albums. The band is still technical, atmospheric, melodic and unpredictable, but the album as a whole doesn't hit as hard as the first two.

Tesseract didn't disappoint the second time around either. All four parts of the album click together into a meaningful whole. The band clearly hasn't run out of ideas yet. They'll just need to polish a few segments next time, even though…
