Legendary German bards Blind Guardian will step into their 30th year next year (not counting the two years when they were known as Lucifer’s Heritage). In that time they’ve released ten studio albums (the current one, Beyond the Red Mirror, is still hot off the press) and grown from relatively simple speed metal beginnings into one of the most respected power metal bands in the world. Even though Blind Guardian long ago outgrew the confines of the genre (just like their contemporaries Helloween and Gamma Ray) and rose to “Somewhere Far Beyond”.

Blind Guardian prove it, more than many a similar band, not just with the constant quality of their records but maybe even more with their outstanding live shows, which, at least judging by the reactions of their loyal and numerous fans, have no equal. The German giants proved it again with Thursday’s show at Kino Šiška, which got a crowd reaction that good only once before, at Megadeth’s first show here. And that included the brand-new songs from the new record, which we talked about with Hansi Kürsch, the band’s founder, the main culprit behind those outstanding lyrics and one of the best metal vocalists around, right before their show.
