Tommy DeCarlo, vocalist of AOR legends Boston, has passed away at the age of 60.
News of the singer’s death was shared on March 9 in a short statement on Facebook by members of his family, who also revealed, among other things, that DeCarlo had been diagnosed with a brain tumor last September.
DeCarlo, born April 23, 1965 in Utica, New York, became a huge fan of AOR superstars Boston when he was 12. That was when he discovered the band, just as they released their commercially groundbreaking self-titled debut album.
After Boston frontman Brad Delp took his own life in March 2007 at the age of 55, DeCarlo dedicated a song to Delp, A Man He’ll Always Be, and put it up on MySpace. When Boston boss, lead guitarist and founder Tom Scholz heard the song, he invited DeCarlo, who was then working as a manager at Home Depot in Charlotte (North Carolina), to join the band at a special concert in honor of Brad Delp! The event was “Come Together: A Tribute to Brad Delp,” held at Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion on August 19, 2007.
Soon after, DeCarlo was invited to join the band on tour. He remained Boston’s vocalist until his death. He was one of the singers featured on Boston’s 2013 album “Life, Love & Hope”.
In 2022, DeCarlo signed a deal with the Italian label Frontiers Music Srl. In December of that year, his solo debut “Dancing in the Moonlight” came out.
