Deep Purple, the biblical forefathers of rock and metal, released their new studio album, titled “SPLAT!”, on July 3 via earMUSIC.
The band has just wrapped up a European tour promoting the new album, and we caught them in Vienna on 5. 10. 2026 (RockLine concert review). Now they’re also unveiling the official music video for the title track of the current album, “SPLAT!” Check it out below.

Having sold more than 120 million albums since forming back in 1968, Deep Purple secured their place in rock history a long time ago.
Frontman Ian Gillan says: “Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple, we feel very much like a ‘modern version’ of ourselves as we were in the seventies.”
For the new album, Deep Purple teamed up once again with renowned producer Bob Ezrin. Together they’ve made an album that draws on the sound and attitude that has always set Deep Purple apart from the rest. “SPLAT!” is Deep Purple’s heaviest album in years, and it was recorded the way Deep Purple have always gone about it: by playing in the studio like it’s a live show.
Ian Gillan: “I have to say that we’ve now largely gone back to material that sits right alongside songs like “Highway Star”, “Smoke on the Water” and “Lazy” – the dynamics, the balance and the fun factor of the days when we were making music between 1969 and 1973.”
“SPLAT!” is tied together by a story that was Ian Gillan’s idea. The album doesn’t depict the end of the world as a sudden wipeout – an apocalypse; instead, the concept behind “SPLAT!” takes us on a journey through humanity’s gradual transformation, or metamorphosis, all the way to its end. To celebrate the album’s release, Deep Purple will keep up their packed touring schedule, which this year includes no fewer than 86 concerts in 28 countries on three continents.
So the new music – the album “SPLAT!” – is already out there, and Ian Gillan can’t help but grin: “Deep Purple are in a great place right now.”
