Deep Purple, the biblical forefathers of rock and metal, will release a new studio album called “SPLAT!” on July 3 via earMUSIC.
The album will be available in all formats and variants! You can already pre-order it.
Below you’ll find the second album single and the video for the track Diablo. It follows the first album single, Arrogant Boy!
With more than 120 million albums sold since the band formed back in 1968, Deep Purple long ago locked in their place in rock history.
Frontman Ian Gillan says: »Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple, we feel like a very ‘modern version of ourselves as we were in the seventies.«
For the new album, Deep Purple teamed up once again with renowned producer Bob Ezrin. Together they’ve made a record that draws on the sound and attitude that have always set Deep Purple apart from the rest. “SPLAT!” is the heaviest Deep Purple album in years, recorded the way the band has always approached it: playing in the studio like they’re on stage at a gig.
Ian Gillan: »I have to say we’ve now largely gone back to material that sits right alongside songs like »Highway Star«, »Smoke on the Water« and »Lazy« – the dynamics, the balance and the level of fun from the days when we were creating between 1969 and 1973.«
“SPLAT!” is tied together by a story that was Ian Gillan’s idea. The album doesn’t depict the end of the world as a sudden destruction – an apocalypse – but instead the concept behind “SPLAT!” takes you on a journey through the gradual transformation, or metamorphosis, of humanity toward its end. To celebrate the album’s release, Deep Purple will keep up their massive touring schedule, which this year alone has them playing no fewer than 86 shows in 28 countries across three continents.
So new music, in the form of the album “SPLAT!, is already on its way, and Ian Gillan is clearly enjoying it: »Deep Purple are in a great position right now.«
