Pero Defformero Tear Up Kranj (2019)
“Pero Defformero have played Slovenian stages a lot over the past eight years, and even though the setlists are similar, Biške’s jokes make every single show a one-of-a-kind experience.”
Location: Kranj / Trainstation SubArt / Slovenia

Mixing different styles of music is nothing new on the scene. But fusing heavy metal with Serbian turbofolk? That’s not exactly a walk in the park. Pero Defformero, a Vojvodina quartet that has been plowing this furrow for, believe it or not, a good quarter of a century, have pulled off this fusion more than brilliantly. With a milestone anniversary like that, and for a band whose style nobody would have predicted such longevity for, the Defformero guys keep roaming all over the Balkans, wowing packed clubs with their great shows.
Only two weeks had passed since their gig at MC Pekarna in Maribor when the band returned to Slovenia, this time to Trainstation SubArt in Kranj, with Koper following the next day. The show kicked off a few minutes late, shortly after ten, and although the turnout looked average at first, the hall filled up to the last corner in no time. This time the show started without an intro, but straight at full throttle with the fast hit ‘Ćerka Đavola’. Luka, Bandi, Friš and Biške, in great spirits as always, showed and proved that more than 25 years of the band is no coincidence, but the fruit of talented work by the members under the leadership of guitarist Saša Friš. Of course, Biške’s almost stand-up comedy bits between songs were not missing, announcing the next tracks along the way; we even got a partial take on the classic ‘Ko to tamo peva’ in ‘Švaba jaše’.
It’s been almost 5 years since the band’s last album “JeR to liči na taj način?”. They’ve dropped a few singles in recent years, but the new album, supposedly titled “Muzika za ljude bez prijatelja”, is still something we’re waiting on. No worries though, the band keeps delighting the Balkan nations, and the new songs played this time, ‘Hipster’, ‘Lola’ and ‘Trebalo bi’, have already almost become folk classics, at least judging by the crowd’s reaction. And the crowd, loyal as ever, left a big mark again this time! Who would have thought that one day metalheads would slam and mosh-pit to turbofolk (admittedly backed by metal rhythms), but in Kranj this time, they did!
To wrap it up, I can borrow the band’s slogan,
SVAKA ČAS’!
