Legendary drummer Simon Phillips is known all over the world for his work with bands and artists like Toto, The Who, Jeff Beck, Al Di Meola, Hiromi, Stanley Clarke and, of course, his own Protocol. On June 5, 2026, he’ll release a new studio album with his Protocol lineup, “Protocol 6”.
On the exciting new album Protocol 6, Simon is also growing as a composer. He says: “The material is very different from Protocol V. Since the band has been together in this new lineup for six years, I was able to write the tracks specifically for each individual player. My rock’n’roll side puts a strong stamp on the music, even though we’re keeping the jazz-rock fusion going. I like to call what we do progressive jazz.”
The lineup of this well-oiled band stays the same, with Phillip Whack once again on board, bringing his masterful touch on the wind instruments (tenor, alto and soprano saxophone).
Simon Phillips and Protocol 6 are heading out on a new European tour these days! On May 10, 2026, they’ll also play Avditorij in Portorož – find more info HERE!
