Steelover, the cult Belgian hard rock and heavy metal outfit from the ’80s, will release a brand-new studio album called “Devil’s Highway” on August 21, 2026. The record is coming out on Escape Records.
The album was produced by Steelover themselves, with Fredrik Folkare handling the mix.
Steelover are a Belgian band playing melodic rock/metal. They were formed in the early ’80s by three friends from Liège: guitarists Pat Freson and Mel Presti and bassist Nick Gardi. On the hunt for a drummer, they went with Rudy Lenners (Scorpions), who had just come back from Germany after leaving Scorpions.
Rudy suggested they get in touch with Vince Cardillo, a seasoned vocalist who had already cut an album in London.
The chemistry clicked, and Steelover recorded their debut album “Glove Me” in no time, released on Mausoleum.
That record sold more than 400,000 copies, over 76,000 of them in Poland.
A tour followed through a bunch of countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium, with a slot at the Forest National festival, where they opened for Bon Jovi and Kiss.
Vince was replaced by Dani Klein, and Steelover recorded a second album, which never saw the light of day. After a short while Dani left the band together with Mel Presti to start Vaya Con Dios.
The band came back in 2017 with a new EP (including the single “Wild and Free”), mixed by the legendary producer and sound engineer Tommy Hansen.
In 2019 Rudy Lenners retired from music. Vince, meanwhile, had rejoined Steelover. After a gig, Vince, Pat and Nick decided to keep the story going. In 2022 Steelover put out the album “Stainless” on Escape Music (ESM368). It was received really well, which gave Steelover an extra push to come back with yet another new album, this one packed with 11 hard rock / heavy metal tracks. The material breathes old-school metal and heavy rock! Sort of a mix of Saxon and Scorpions (according to the official promo blurb).
