In your teenage years every guy has certain dreams and desires… to dunk it wherever he possibly can. Not everyone pulls it off, and virgin frustrations can lead to all kinds of results. The extreme outcome can be, say, turning into the psycho from The Silence of the Lambs, while a sort of middle path is, I don’t know, hanging out at K4 on those nights when the two clueless cadets from Police Academy keep stumbling in again and again. The Murska Sobota crew Vulvathrone, meanwhile, poured their perversions into their debut record Bukkake.
Vulvathrone are one of the few grind representatives on our turf, and probably the only ones with a unique collection of poetry, ranging from opuses like Bitch, Suck My Tich!!! to sonnets à la Plastered With Semen. The dominator quintet pounds out solid grind in the vein of Dying Fetus, who they recall mainly through the guitars of Davor Lapoši and Sašo Herman, which are a bit smeared and sloppy, but in places serve up some good s&m riffs. The bass player is sadly still a little trapped in romantic ideals of love and is more or less inaudible. Whip it out and hit those strings! Matjaž Kamničar has successfully carried the domination over to the drums, which are pretty varied and dynamic, and the production is clear enough that you can easily make out the bass drum pounding, the fills and the cymbals. Chief sadist Sebastjan Vöröš coaxes ultra-brutal growls out of his vocal cords, most reminiscent of a rabid boar, or early Aborted. They’re fairly intelligible at moments, but without any romantic lyrics you can’t make them out in full, and sadly the lyrical porn odysseys aren’t printed in full. A shame, since Marquis de Sade would surely have gladly signed his name under them. Besides Sebastjan, the guttural gargling is also handled by Herman, who squeals like a piglet right before it becomes a hot dog. The double vocal penetration successfully brings more dynamics and variety between the individual tracks, and for an extra helping of fun for all the porn enthusiasts, you can count on Bitch, Suck My Tich!!!, The Allure of Domination and Marquise de Rous.
Bukkake is a must-have addition to the CD shelf of any decent Slovenian metal collection, grind in general, and a collector will find it fits nicely next to an extensive stash of pornographic DVDs. The Vulvathrone mindset of degrading and abusing everything female on two legs has been planted. Despite a few lineup changes, they prove live that the new material promises a lot. I’m waiting for it with my pants down…
