Classicks
Artist: Cooper, Alice
Label: Epic Records
Released: 1995
The last record for Epic is called Classicks (the name alone tells you it’s a compilation). After three hugely successful albums with the label, here’s a fourth one, which unfortunately is just a compilation of the biggest hits from the Epic era. The record has 15 tracks, six of them live, and even those are lifted from the already released Trashes The World concert recording from 1989. Just so it isn’t all that below-average, the closing track is Fire, a Hendrix cover that was tacked on to the compilation as a treat, and it’s worth a listen if you ever stumble across it.
The heart of the compilation is eight tracks, sadly only two of them from Trash. Hey Stoopid and The Last Temptation get three each. And that’s pretty much it. The album is only worth buying if you want a collection of some of the better tracks from the Epic era (roughly half of all the hits from those three records, mind you) plus a few classics from the Trash tour, which, if you ask me, is money badly spent, even though the CD is dirt cheap.
The compilation is surely just a contractual obligation to the label, and the ones who bought it are mostly die-hard fans, because apart from Fire it’s got nothing new or exciting to show, aside from a few great tracks.
