Artist: Kilmister, Lemmy
Label: Sanctuary Records
Release: 2006
“Damage Case”, a double-CD retrospective, charts the career of one of the greatest rock’n’roll icons of all time!
Some will find the label “one of the greatest rock’n’roll icons” overblown, but just look at the facts: Lemmy Kilmister has stuck to hard-hitting rock’n’roll for three decades with Motorhead, cut some unforgettable tracks in the ten years before that, and still manages to surprise us when we least expect it… his status is beyond question!!!
Believe it or not – the first musical impressions on young Lemmy came from Little Richard, Carl Perkins and Chuck Berry – just listen to his work with Rockin’ Vickers from the early sixties. Then came The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, for whom Lemmy once worked as a roadie (or rather, a drug runner on tour), and you can hear it both in his stint with Sam Gopal and, of course, in the cult band Hawkwind. And the last song for Hawkind? Motorhead, naturally, whose story kicked off back in what’s now a distant 1976.
You’ve also got to check out the collaborations with The Damned, The Upseters with Mick Green, Dave Grohl’s side project Probot, the covers of Metallica and Iron Maiden, the duet with Wendy O Williams on the country classic Stand By Your Man, and a bunch of other rarely heard tracks.
A good two hours of pure musical pleasure!
