Stadion Stožice (2DVD)
Artist: Siddharta
Label: Finis Mundi
Release: 2012
Rating: 4/5
Siddharta’s huge concert at Stožice Stadium on June 18, 2011 has finally gotten its epilogue in the form of a double DVD release. Pretty quickly, we might add, since the promo concert for both the DVD and the album VI was already held on December 1, 2011 at Cvetličarna in Ljubljana, just a little over four months after the event.
So what do we find on the two DVDs, which come with a pair of glasses for viewing the content in 3D? The first DVD is a recording of the entire concert, all 35 songs played, but in standard format, so you don’t need the glasses for the show. Since we’ve already written plenty on these pages about both the concert and the already released album VI, I won’t waste any words on that this time. Except to say that it’s an absolutely outstanding product in terms of direction, sound and all the effects, offering 3 hours and 16 minutes of thrilling memories of what, judging by the results of a poll on the website Napovednik.com (published on www.siddharta.net), was the music event of 2011 in Slovenia.
The second DVD offers a 50-minute documentary about the event. For music fanatics that’s always a seriously sweet treat, since it’s incredibly cool to know and see what went on behind the scenes. The documentary, which is also available with English subtitles, takes us from the idea for the concert and the album all the way to the final realization, with stops along the way for endless rehearsing, practicing, testing and so on. The only thing I miss is an anecdote or two, a funny situation, maybe some seemingly insurmountable problem and how the guys tackled it…. In short, something that would take away some of the professional, even sterile feel of the documentary and add a more down-to-earth note that feels closer to the fans. There’s plenty of information, of course, so the viewer gets a rough picture of how it all went down, it just lacks that funnier, more relaxed side.
Besides the documentary, the DVD also includes a gallery of 72 concert photos in 3D. This is where you’ll need to reach for the included glasses. They’ll also come in handy for flipping through the included booklet, which contains photos of the best moments of the night.
Taken as a whole, this is a truly gorgeous product aesthetically, and the idea of 3D photos deserves praise too, since it’s definitely something new around here. Polish, great design, attention to detail and flawlessness — we’re used to all of that from Siddharta anyway. They’ve always been masters at it and they keep on being so. For the price of EUR 16.99 you really get a lot, and for a true Siddharta fan this purchase is a must.
