Thrash-minded Polish black metallers Bloodwritten once tripped on H. P. Lovecraft, magic, the occult and mythological motifs, but now it’s time to squeeze out the purest nectar of soul-deep rage. Thrashin’ Fury, their third full-length, proves that over fourteen years of existence they’ve carved themselves into angry, determined thrashers with traces of the darkest musical deviance and black metal. A darkened take on aggressive early Slayer shakes hands with the technicality of the European school of Kreator, Immortal and Carpatian Forest, already on their debut Pages In Blood, to which they added new rows of steel teeth two years ago with their first label-backed release, Iniquity Intensity Insanity. The third direct hit, which will torpedo you from the very first listen, is Thrashin’ Fury.

Nomen est omen, and the album title gives away almost all the hidden aces of the Warsaw quintet. Behind the cataclysmic, war-minded cover art, designed by the bassist of Polish death metal band Stillborn Ataman Tolovy, lies a landscape of rustic thrash simplicity. Bloodwritten radically and atheistically stake out the brutal premises of their war universe right from opening track Whore. Right there the sophisticated guitar duo of Thanathos and Necrohypnos proves rock solid, stacking one thickly layered riff sandwich on top of another, while the solo explosions are the glue between the sturdy bricks of solid thrashing. The enigmatic string of pseudonyms is rounded out by guttural orator Bastard, who in his youth evidently took the early Testament discography as the holy alpha and omega of all music. The cherry on top is the bass-and-drums tandem of Marrath Sattis and Matt. Production-wise, the record is raw, flawless and smooth-flowing, just as a piece of thrash art should be.

Thrashin’ Fury is a record that will burrow between your skull bones, fill the gaps between your brain synapses with pure pleasure and quality hooks, and just might get you to blow the layers of dust off the thrash corner of your music treasury and reach for the original “sin” – Show No Mercy, spin Black Magic or something even more ominous, and drift off into the wicked netherworld of occult lyricism and total hellish disconnect! A record absolutely worth repeated (ab)use and listening!
